Day 28: Library Lockdown

KENYA | Sunday, 17 March 2013 | Views [184]

Alex, Ashlyn, and I spent the entire day working in the library. We were able to get the project almost completed! I’ll go back in the morning to finish up some minute organizational details, but the big things are all set! We removed one bookcase, now in the teacher’s lounge, and a scary metal contraption with loose glass panes that was being utilized as a bookcase. The thing was honestly terrifying to even look at. The library looks amazing – I can’t wait to post some before and after pictures. I felt a little guilty, as none of us were teaching. However, we weren’t the only ones. Since none of the teachers were being paid, they were not teaching either. I find this rather ridiculous, as they hang around the school and just sit in the teacher’s lounge. They even take their lunch at the school. It rattled me, because most of the teachers that I have ever met have cared about their kids much more and had personal relationships with them , which is not the case here.
