We were able to really sink our teeth into the library project today. Ashlyn, Alex, and I started the heavy-duty lifting and organization. We even removed one of the awful bookcases. The teachers were pretty excited, as they’ve moved it into the teachers’ lounge. It is now filled with class books. At least one room was finished today! I hate starting projects and not finishing them quickly – I struggle with long-term projects – and so it killed me not to finish the library. However, the whole point is that it’s a project that is supposed to take a while. I’ll have to figure out a new one for when it’s all finished, which will definitely be within the next couple of days. I also went with the girls to the clinic today. Previous volunteers began a project to get the boarders at the orphanage tested for HIV, and the project has been picked up by Ashlyn and Alex. I went with them, as it is likely that they will have to leave the project to me, as they both leave on Sunday. We met with a woman at the clinic to go over the logistics of the testing. The testing here is free, as is the medication for those infected. Hopefully the whole thing can get rolling before the girls leave!
