Chance encounters

I would not have said anything about the people that I keep bumping into but today the unthinkable happened and therefore this merits being on the record. This is not “Casablanca” and I am not Ingrid Bergman but of all the people in all the places and all the buses in town who do I bump into but a fellow “Guangzhou Ren”. My friend Sarah, as keen a Paddyfield patron for the Thursday salsa nights as myself and obviously just as partial to early morning bus rides from Phnom Penh. What are the odds? As a result I now am going to explore the funky city of Siem Riep with a friend whom I am about to dash to meet for dinner. This keeps happening although not as spectacularly as today. In the deserted premises of the Champasak temple in Laos I bumped into Giacomo with whom I happened to do the cooking class in Changmai. In Phnom Penh I just randomly entered a guesthouse I was not even staying in just to see if it had a view to bump into Jen, a lovely Canadian who spent two days on the bench in front of me as we were sailing the Mekong from Thailand to Luang Prabang. Last thing I knew she was off to Vietnam and for all I know she might meet me again for dinner tomorrow. And just as I was leaving Angkor Wat behind me who do I see but Frank on his bicycle dashing back to town. Frank is the most exciting Swiss I have met yet with tons of stories and impressions from his nearly one year travelling adventures. Are there any more of you roaming these foreign lands. If yes! Kindly give me advance notice or I might have a heart attack. Particularly if I see you were you are not expected. Come to think of it, don’t warn me. Just turn UP! ☺
