    Eucalyptus trees rise ghostly out of the smoke. The sound of the grass' and trees' oils popping was the most surprising and beautiful part of these spring fires. by: cadebradshaw Views[520] Firefighters tame the blaze near a residential neighborhood in Townsville, Queensland. by: cadebradshaw Views[331] A bush is engulfed in flame and burning leaves rise into the sky. Control burns are only practiced under low wind conditions so stray sparks do not ignite unintended country or residential areas. by: cadebradshaw Views[330] Well planned burn regimes keep dense undergrowth from accumulating, which in turn replenishes soil nutrients with ash. by: cadebradshaw Views[323] Back-burning is a common forestry practice to prevent larger and more dangerous wildfires.
