EL Calafate, Tres Lagos, Bajo Caracoles, Chile Chico

ARGENTINA | Sunday, 23 December 2007 | Views [616]

Our guide book described this 600 km gravel section of Routa 40 as its most desolate and remote. For a normal bakkie or 4WD this road will be lots of fun but the main problem for our little Corsa was of course ground clearance and it was quite a tough ride trying to keep the underside of the car from being punished. The average speed on this section was around 40 km/h. The scenery resembles that of the Karoo with some amazing cloud formations shaped by the high winds. The wind was quite strong - travelling downwind it measured around 70 gusting to 80 km/h.
