OK so here begins the Great Canadian Road Trip. I am travelling most of the way across Canada from Vancouver to Ottawa in a friend's VW Van, to meet up with my Mom, sister, and niece on July 29th. We'll hang around for the weekend, my niece will sing on Parliament Hill on Canada Day with her choir, and then we all fly back July 3.
Casey (the VW Van) is a teenager, with nearly 300,000 kms of travel experience. He (I am told) has even been to Costa Rica. So he knows what he is doing, and I'm sure we'll get along fine.
I left Vancouver on Saturday June 16th, and made it 1200 kms to Edmonton to meet up with some friends Suday morning. I've relaxed at my bro's house in St Albert, eaten some good food, and now it's time to really get going.
Next spots on the map: Today, I'm pretty focused on Torrington, Big Valley, and Drumheller, Alberta. Torrington: home of the world famous gopher museum. I'll send postcards. Drumheller: dinosaur capital, of course. And just for fun, Big Valley is home of the new creationist museum, and ironically enough, just down the road from Drumheller. Here, I will learn how people and dinosaurs roamed the earth at the same time and how the earth is only about 6,000 years old. It's science. The guy has a fossilized teddy bear to prove it. Can't wait!
