The BIG Trip

Volleyball - Round II

GERMANY | Thursday, 3 November 2011 | Views [502]

Our last full day in Hamburg...mainly taken up by Roni’s less than successful packing efforts. Some days the pack is filled easily and there’s even room left over. Not today – almost finished first pack before realising the sleeping bag was still out. Gutted.

Bray kept himself occupied with the internet until Roni finally finished and we set out to investigate postage options. After burning our photo backup DVDs we were keen to send them home to NZ for safekeeping (and Bray had a few items of clothing not required in the current climate to add to the parcel).

Bray had found the parcel post place online so we headed for that location...without much success. Eventually we succumbed and Roni asked at the information booth in the Munsburg Mile. The lady was helpful and we found the shop, the first pricing list we found seemed quite reasonable and it all looked rosy UNTIL... Bray found the Oceania prices on another wall and we bailed pretty much immediately. Forty Euro (80NZD) to send 200g!!! We’d rather carry an extra bag for the moment thanks!

Wander off home for lunch after this and a relaxing afternoon of photo labelling and last checking of train times and details for tomorrow. Roni also sorted the logistics for January – getting the car to Auckland for Simon & Maren’s road trip then getting home again etc. Maren had a course all day and then her pilates class (she teaches it) until after 9 so couldn’t join us tonight. When Simon got home from work we chatted for a bit before heading out to volleyball. Same time and place as last week but a few people couldn’t make it so we were 8 people. This proved to be enjoyable for all as we had more running around and work to do as well as the mix of people leading to a fun though still competitive few games. We were sad to finish at the end of the night.

By now we three were fairly hungry and had directions from the volleyball crew on how to locate the best donor box in the area. Bray and Simon’s co-ordinated efforts at remembering the directions got us there in no time at all. Their donor boxes were so tasty that our usual two was not enough and we returned for a third to share. A couple of beverages and football on the big screen = happy people!

Eventually we got up enough motivation to move and headed home. Will definitely sleep well after the workout and big feed.
