Today was
pretty much a driving day after a tasty and relaxed breakfast with Hans and Uta.
Apart from the drama of the World Cup final of course! Bray found an online
stream and had it going on the side quietly during brekkie. We managed to see
the haka before hitting the road but didn’t have a chance to watch or hear the
match live en route as Germany is not a rugby nation at all!
It was a day
of driving...driving...driving. Thank you Maren & Simon! Stops here and
there for bathroom use, petrol and our packed lunch (buns with our names on
them) but pretty much straight on through to Hamburg. Fortunately the weather
co-operated and we were rain-free, sun shining, good music and sights plus our
tasty selection of snacks to help time pass.
After 7+
hours of driving we were all glad to arrive home. A quick unpack before
consuming delicious Indian curry from Simon & Maren’s favourite place
across the road then they hit the hay relatively early.
Bray had found a
recording of this morning’s match that took hours to download so after the
other two went to bed we watched the final. It was hard to be quiet during the
tense excitement (especially for Bray) but we managed. The game was tight like
a tiger...go the AB’s!! We went to bed late but happy.
Made us a
little homesick not being there to celebrate with everyone or share the action
in real-time but still glad we are on this trip – experience of a lifetime.
