My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I've been living off being a non-commercial artist since 2009 with no other means of support. My art's practice involves traveling, cross-cultural interaction, juxtaposition with the landscape and writing so it makes sense that I should add a practice of photography to my existing work; in order to document my work more professionally but also to add another source of income. To me, travel photography is instinctive: traveling across Canada I kept 1327, after 1 month; 835 from across Australia, 3 months; 1495 from 2 months on the Curonian Spit, in Lithuania; 390 from 2 weeks in the Arctic, Sweden; 316 from 3 days in Rio, Brazil...but those are just the ones I kept, the good ones - the thousands which have been edited down to only a few hundred. This practice of travel photography is innate, where I document (and write about) what I see as cultural nuances, environmental details, the obscure and collectible moments which I then share with friends and colleagues but I see this travel photography scholarship as a way of developing that practice into something which broadens my own artistic practice, makes it more sustainable and expands an activity I'm subconsciously passionate about.
