Fishing is a way of life for the locals, all year round and on both sides of the 'Spit. *This image is of locals fishing in the Baltic Sea.

Soviet-era weather stations can be seen along the sea-side beaches of Nida, still providing information to the local fisherman looking to practice their trade and tourists headed to tan.

When the boats become locked in by ice, fishermen in Nida carry on by building ice-fishing shanties and catching smelt by the boatload.
