Auckland!

I woke this morning in an apartment, and all felt right with the world. The Cook Islands were great, but there's something about being in a city, moving around, buildings, traffic...also, this apt. is fantastic. I'm staying with Kirstin and Greta, two NZ ladies from Couchsurfing.org. They returned from a round the world journey within the last year, and have only just settled down in Auckland in the last few months. Kirstin is a little Boho, really funny and a bit zany, and Greta is punk rock - New Zealand style (I'm not sure if that description will make sense to anyone but me - hmmmm.) They are in a band together called NewTown - which is the area where they lived in met in Wellington at University. They have a gig on Saturday which I'm really sad to miss, but I head to my first farm Friday morning. In the meantime, I'm hanging out in their storefront turned apt. with Twiggy (the male cat). It's one giant room mildly partitioned off by chairs, bookcases, etc. Band equipment sits in one corner, a large fish tank is hanging against a wall with two fish from Mexico that are kind of a lizard/fish mixture - they eat meat, the only ones who do because the ladies are vegan - HAH! It's been so nice walking (really being welcomed) into their world. They just picked up some brew kits and are getting started next week, and they make their own kombucha - OH, and Greta was crafting her own glue to put up their gig posters for this Saturday. I could go raving about their amazing lifestyle some more, but I think I've made my feelings clear - they're just DOING so much - actively, daily, they are both working full time as well - I said as much to Greta and she replied that she's gotten to the point in her life where she doesn't want to talk about doing things anymore, she simply wants to be in the middle of them, getting them done. !!!! In short, I am inspired. They directed me to Mt. Eden, a short nice walk from here, where I can get some nice views of the city. I haven't felt this excited to be in a city since years ago in NYC, alright, coffee beckons.
