Simon in Cuzco
We survived two buses, two flights, a taxi and over 24 hours in transit to arrive in Cuzco at 7am. Fortunately for us, our hotel checked us in at this ridiculous hour. We slept until midday and then hit the streets, after all, we only had two days in Cuzco, one before the Inca trail and one after. So we didn't get as much time as we'd have liked to look around Cuzco itself. It is a very interesting little (at least in comparison to Lima!) city. Cobbled streets, markets, interesting buildings and lots of Inca sites. We were a little suprised when we arrived in Cuzco at how cold it was. So we did some power shopping for essential items for the trek - beanie and gloves for bec and waterproof jackets for us both. We ate at a little local restaurant, chicken, chips and salad (it is amazing how rare it is to find salad, actual salad, in South America) for 5 soles or AUD$2.50! After that we headed to our tour company's office for a briefing. We got all our hired camping gear and met most of the people who would be in our group as well as our tour guide, who is a bit of a character! Then an early night for our 6am start tomorrow. Machu Picchu, here we come!
