My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I’m a storyteller. By studying and practicing different media I have learned that what makes for a truly compelling story is great observation. As a camera almost works like an external eye, it is only logical that it would be an amazing tool to help build a story.
Whether I write a profile of a person, take a portrait shot, or make a video – I always have to pay attention to the details that form an atmosphere, a character. What I love about photography is that, if done correctly, it captures those elements in just one moment, even though they transcend time by definition.
I am a graduate journalism student at NYU and I’ve been told a lot about multimedia, the need for flexibility in a fast-changing profession. I am also a sports enthusiast who likes to compete. And I’m an adventurer, urging to discover the world. When I travel, I want to bring back a story. I look at places, I get to know people, and before releasing the shutter, I try to put them into the framing that reveals something about them. I try to find the light that adds a twist. I try to use depth (or flatness) so that my photos follow the plot. I’m a storyteller. And that’s why I should be chosen.
