My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Philippines | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos
Few things in this world evoke such emotions as the smell of a home cooked meal, and a perfectly timed and executed photograph. This is the lasting impression of my youth, many days of which were spent leafing through photography magazines while snacking on mom’s special chocolate porridge.
Whenever I look at photos, I feel like I am being transported through space and time, to places and ages that are so alien yet so familiar. There is a complete story in a single image; a frozen moment in time that evaporates as soon as you click the shutter. It is chance to experience something that may otherwise be out of reach, a way of sharing the countless stories of people everywhere.
In a troubled world, these photographs have a power beyond aesthetics. It helps bridge the gap between different cultures and generations, helping us learn more about each other. It opens people’s eyes to the larger world around them, and that in itself is lifelong goal worth pursuing. I would love to be a part of that.
