Rosario clutches the main weapon of her trade: a short hook known as a “kalahig”. With this tool, she digs around the rubbish and collects items that she can resell.

Scavengers line up beside a dump truck which is about to empty its contents. Competition is intense to collect the best items in the tons of waste disposed here every day. Conditions are dangerous and very unsanitary. The decomposing biomass attracts many flies.

Edgar sits dazed on a makeshift hammock after a long day of work. His father has fallen ill and is no longer able to work in the dumpsite. Since then, Edgar stopped going to school to help his mother earn a living. He dreams of becoming a seaman to lift his family out of poverty.
