My Scholarship entry - Creative Entrepreneurship by the underprivileged in India

8 yrs ago I gave up a successful corporate career to raise my kids. I was happily married & mothering two adorable kids, but I yearned for more. My upbringing has instilled in me an unflinching sense of who I am & what I want for myself. So when I decided to focus on my career, I chose my passion of photography & painting over corporate life. To me, photography is more than taking photos. It enables me to be a part of lives of strangers even if only for a few moments. It’s humbling to capture precious moments of people finding happiness from so little. It’s awe-inspiring to see ordinary people re-inventing themselves to earn a living. It’s heart wrecking to see people in pain & misery. I aspire to be a photographer who sees unusual in the usual. It’s my vision to present what we bring onto ourselves & to others-the good, the bad & the ugly. This scholarship will give me once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from the very best, not only the science, but also the art of photography. In this fantastic journey, I promise to be not only an inquisitive & committed student, but also a partner who would bring forth new perspectives by sharing experiences as a woman, mother & an Indian.
