Hello from Tokyo!
I’m sitting in a cosy little hostel common room warming myself with some tasty curry flavoured cup noodles (some call them cheating, I call them delicious late night convenience). I’m exhausted and a little strung-out from the kerosene fumes emanating from the portable heater that warms the room, but more than anything I’m excited that the trip has finally begun!
Tomorrow, I’m off to Korea for 8 days to revisit the country where I taught English for a year and a half. I’ll be catching up with friends, visiting my old students and generally indulging in all things Korean. Next week I’m coming back to Tokyo to meet Simon Richmond and start my assignment with the Rough Guide. I’m really looking forward to getting started and learning all I can about the world of travel writing!
Given I’m only in town for a quick stopover tonight, I’m staying close to the airport at the Narita Airport Hostel. The friendly English–speaking owner offers a free pick-up/drop off service for Narita airport, and the tatami-style rooms are warm and clean. Two thumbs up from this weary traveller!
