Alys and Jess Tour Europe

Our Own Personal Irish Snug

USA | Thursday, 1 May 2008 | Views [599]

The flight wasn't bad; the food was the worst bit. Considering we paid $275 for the ticket I was expecting a 5 course meal:) But Alys and I are quickly discovering that we eat what we get because you just never know when you will get to eat again. So we ate the airplane grub, joked at how Alys couldn't quite get her earphones on right and we dozed as much as we could (which wasn't much). Customs was a breeze and we made it out of the airport in a jiffy, taking a bus to the city center and walking about a bit looking for a somewhat affordable place to eat. This wasn't an easy task but at least we were prepared for it and settled on a tiny cafe where we got cream of some vegetable soup and sandwiches which turned out to be exactly what both of us wanted. It was after we ate that the tiredness sunk in. We planned to venture out and try and track down a library were we could hopefully steal a nap. We met a security guard outside the national museum and after much conversation we decided to be honest with our question. We told him that we were looking for a library or a museum or something because in actuality we were just so jet-lagged we could hardly keep our eyes open and just needed a place to nap. The guard pointed us in the direction of the museum. When that failed to provide a nice nap spot the museum guards suggested Trinity College. Bingo. We were both able to get three hours of off and on sleep before we met up with our Irish friend Hazel in a warm, safe place. We are staying with Hazel in Dublin for the next couple days and plan on exploring the city tomorrow with fresh, wide-open eyes. We have a feeling that there is a Guiness out there with our name on it.
