My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Vietnam | Wednesday, January 9, 2013 | 5 photos

The passion for investigation has always been part of my family heritage. My grandfather was a key researcher from Bolivia and my uncle Antonio Paredes Candia is one of the greatest writers in the history of my country. They are my biggest inspiration for exploring other cultures.
I travel the world as a professional musician. Life and music have become richer since I started observing them through the lens. I believe that for being a photographer it is more important to have the ability to be in those moments on which others can´t be, showing those situations that provoke a reaction inside the viewer. The knowledge that I would gain from this scholarship is invaluable. I have been inquiring for years about how the photographers of NatGeo approach their assignments and how they can achieve a perfect balance between documentation and art in their photographs.
My main goal is being able to reflect the true essence of cultures, especially in conflict zones. I could apply that to my country, since I consider there are a lot of things that need to be shown. I believe that as artists we should be involved somehow with a social cause, because in the end the artist belongs to the people.
