My hindi professor Bernie and my four-legged friend Cricket!!!

My hindi professor Bernie and my four-legged friend Cricket!!!

Okay some important hindi phrases/actions i've been encountering: Achaa--okay Namskar--hi/hello Shaking the head from side to side quickly (like a bobble head doll)--okay, as you wish, go ahead, signal of understanding, etc. (a very south Indian practice, widely used) Nahin--no Mirchi--spicy Cheeni--sweet/sugar Kitna--how much Sabji--veggie curry All is well here. I had a tour of the city yesterday, and had some fun visiting the more modern parts of town that I had not yet seen. I'm slightly frustrated though...the power adaptor situation is difficult. The adaptor and convertor I brought are rediculously tempermental. I have blown two indian power strips trying to use my convertor and then am left without any source of power. So I'm becoming very carful about what American appliances I plug in and which i just give up on using all together. Hope you enjoy the photos and Hindi lessons! Much love

Thanks for this Hindi Lesson. I need help with pronunciation!

Sorry about the transformer situation. Can you ask someone at the school to help you get the correct power adaptor? Try taking the adaptors back if they appeared faulty-- maybe the store can help you get the correct one for your western equipment. Also talk on line to your friends in India.

Rashanya's friend may have some thoughts? The restauranteur may also know where to get the power adaptor equipment you need.

Best to you this week as you start classes. very excited to know you are learning Hindi. The photos you took of Bangalore are awesome. You're doing great for having only been there less than a week!! Hope your aculturization continues as you commence your studies.

I know you will have less time to communicate with the West in the coming days! Much love,

D,K,L,C & Z!

Good luck tomorrow in your first day of classes! Can you share with us your class schedule? Glad to hear you are using all your peacemaking skills and working collaboratively to understand differences that exist among people from our own country! Look to your local citizens to learn more about how they resolve and work with differences. I look forward to learning from you!

Love your dad
