Today I got up early while Sophia was still snoring away, and headed down to the beach to watch the fishermen. It was about 0745 and the air was still cool and the sun slowly rising. I watched 2 small fishing boats slowly make their way to the shoreline, and I sat around 50m further in on the sand wondering how they were going to drag this boat in. I sat at the same point I watched the day before but the boat was already parked up and it was roughly where I was sitting now.
To my surprise one of the guys remembered me and called me over to help! The process involved placing logs on the sand and pulling the boat up a length, collecting the logs now behind the boat, repositioning them and repeating the process!!needless to say it was exhausting, but the smiles and giggles I got were endless as other locals looked confused at my presence!
The first boat was eventually dragged up after maybe 10 lengths, and I was shattered.. To my surprise a second boat arrived and I was recruited once again! After about an hour I sat down on the sand dripping with sweat and watched the fish being freed from the net and thrown into a basket for the market later on.
The mother who was also helping brought me a mug of hot rose water tea and a chapatti to say thank you, and even though there was not a single word understood on either party, we conversed perfectly well!
I returned to our room where Sophia was still snoring... And once she eventually woke up we spent the rest of the day chilling by the beach.
