10th March 2012 - Still in GoaAfter our eternally long journey from the north, we finally stumbled towards a guesthouse we booked on the internet, at £8 per night and with shared toilet facilities, we weren't expecting too much! To our surprise we were lead through a small path surrounded by 30m high palm trees and the sound of waves crashing on the beach. Through an opening appeared a series of small wooden huts in what can only be described as an oasis of peace!
Being the tail end of season, and Mandrem being on the whole a lot quiter, we were the only other guests bar one.... The toilets and showers were ours!! We quickly settled in and headed for the beach, where we have been spending a lot of our time and Oresti has even started reading books! The beaches here are beautiful. The sand is soft and the water clean, without a spec of rubbish to be seen. The food by comparison to the north is amazing, cheap and hygienic. No more DelhiBelli! For the last couple of days we have had a scooter also, and taken trips to Arambol and Candolem (in search of sheesha!).Celebrations for Holli, Festival of Colour began on the 8th and we were covered in powder paints and water by the locals.
The days are hot, and the nights cool, but there is almost a constant breeze by the beach which is a pleasure during the daytime heat. We will be here for further 3days before we set off in an overnight train further south to Kerala
