She has just been asked by Rough Guides to return to Turkey in the spring as a staff writer. On her scholarship assignment, she worked on 'The Rough Guide to Istanbul', and now she'll be exploring new territory, heading to the Sea of Marmara and the North Aegean.
Congratulations Zoe!
What did Zoe have to say about her scholarship experience?
"The World Nomads/Rough Guides Travel Writing scholarship offered me the unique opportunity to both complete a professional travel writing assignment and receive the guidance and mentorship of author Terry Richardson (who is still offering me advice almost one year on!). There was truly no better introduction to the industry than this - learning on the job and being encouraged to offer and develop my own
ideas, gave me the chance to hone my skills and gain confidence as a writer.
Not only that, but I got to explore the country as part of a BikeHike Adventures tour and take part in a host of activities - hot air ballooning over Cappadocia, horseback riding through the countryside, kayaking on the Mediterranean... the list is endless. The recent news that I have been invited back on board the Rough Guides team, this time to write for The Rough Guide to Turkey, is the perfect summation of an unforgettable experience.
Best of luck to the 2012 entrants - I can't wait to follow the winner's adventures and will spend the whole time wishing that I was there!" - Zoe Smith
