ok, so the Socceroos lost in 'that' penalty against Italy; Adriatic summers aren't long enough (bliss!); and we found that you should never use the term "Eastern Bloc" when talking to a Czech (Central Europe, please).

Overnight train to the capital of dental makeovers, the home of goulasch and did we mention the friendliest people?!

Feeling reflective in the warm sunshine of Budapest Views[78] Budapest markets on a Saturday morning. Yes, we were one of the first ones there considering our train arrived at 07.30. A first for Brett and Maria! Views[84] Crowds taking advantage of the fresh produce - early bird gets the worm! Views[71] Maria going straight for the sausage. Views[63] Saturday sessions at the market. After walking past this spot on different occasions we saw this woman counselling at least 2 others. Views[89]
 
Outside the markets, crossing over the Danube (or 'Duna') towards ... and looking back towards Geeze it's too bloody early for this! Views[68] What a view from the top of Pest: the neo-gothic Parliament House dominates the scene. Views[74] Inside the castle complex - gorgeous colour and texture of Matyas Templom ... Views[74]
 
... and what a gorgeous sunshine-y day in February! The Fishermen's Bastion. Views[78] All this white stone demanded a cheesy pose. Views[72] ... but not so cheesy as others! Is that a weapon you're slinging about? Or are you just... Views[78] Trying to come in from the wind... or wanting to get out into the sunshine. Not so sure... Views[786] Parliament House close-up. Tried to smuggle it home for a bit of kulcha but couldn't get past the massive security. Views[76]
 
The reason for our visit. St Kylie's Cathedral. Views[70] Stopping into one of the bars on our hotel's street before continuing to dinner. (This photo was taken the day after, but hey, we're painting the picture for you!) Views[84] Before... Some typical old-style apartment courtyards, waiting for renovation.... Views[90] ... and after. The waiters were friendly and funky - and even wore the same shoes as each other. This restaurant was so James Bond we're sure it's coming to a theatre near you. Did we mention the food? YUM! Views[86] And they don't do things in halves here. If you're having a birthday it's tradition to invite your friends to try and blow your head off. Views[87] After a hearty meal, the next day we set out to the Hero's Park, stopping in at the old metro line that runs under Andrassy avenue to have a peak. Views[69] Along Andrassy we spied some curious things. Check out the shadow of the rooftop carefully... Views[90] ... while others took a more casual approach. Wouldn't you? Views[74]
 
... while this was OUR approach! Maria checking out the cake selection at the infamous Művész cafe on Andrassy avenue. We had to have a latte pitstop! Views[62] Where else in the world can you find such breathless, grand open spaces? What would you do with it??? Views[76] Enter the Birth of the Music Video. These guys had a tinny little stereo that they played along to, until spectators started climbing all over the statues and mucking up the film sequence... Views[82] Oops!! Views[78] Hang on, we were wearing t-shirts (when out of the wind). And look at all the clouds!! How is this possible?? Views[80]
 
It was time to join the throng. Views[81] Still in Hero's Park, Maria met some dark company. He didn't say much... Views[83] So there was only one way to deal with this nuisance. Views[74] There are many ways to enjoy a gorgeous winter's Sunday, young and old... Views[101] ... having a hit... Views[117]
 
... Need we say more? Views[108] Downward Dog. This is real, kids. Views[122] The end of our 36 hours in Budapest. Sunday night, about to board our train on the left while hoards of Hungarians return to Budapest after leaving for the weekend. Views[120]
