Ok cronies! How u all doing? Well I'm doing fine fine fine. Vancouver weather is much like English weather so I've been schlepping through the rain to get to work but the sun has started to shine, and I tell ya Vancouverites love the sun! Just a few rays of sunlight and half the population is out in their shorts and flip flops, whilst I'm huddled up in my 40 denier tights, zipped up coat, gloves and scarf! The sun may be shining but the wind and the chill don't help at all!
So what's been going on in Vancouver? I'm going to break this down into parts as those who know me are aware I could write a novel with my ramblings. So part 1.....
Wreak Beach - It took us 2 hours to find an entrance into Wreck beach especially as we decided to walk there from our house and when we got there we discovered we had to walk down 420 steps to reach the beach. Not a problem until we got to the bottom and were told the only way out was to walk up the said 420 steps! Now I'm not against steps in general, but walking down narrow winding steps imagining with very little to hold on too can make a girl slightly nervous, let alone walking back up the steps again. Did I mention that there were 420 steps up! So being one for easy fixes I came up with the solution to walk across the beach until we find a more reasonable exit. So hung out on the beach for a while enjoying the view and the water. Wreak Beach is usually a nudist beach but it was freezing cold so people had the sense to keep their clothes on, allowing us to enjoy the beach with the kids (hence why we chose to go at this time). If you haven't already, check out the pics. The place is absolutely gorgeous! Just find a log on the beach and camp out for the day, and when night comes people gather scraps of wood and start fires where they sit around and just hang out. So cool, so chilled, I love it! Not a care in the world, just sitting on the beach, sipping tea, eating sandwiches (bring a bit of England to Canada by having a good cuppa on the beach.) and watching the water roll in.
We decided to start walking before the sun started to set, which was about 17.00. 3 hours later we were still walking, no exit in sight and the sun rapidly setting behind us! We didn't get home until after 9pm! Yes my fabulous idea led to us walking across 4 beaches consisting of sand (I have no idea how people walk gracefully on sand, cos I know I don't!), stones, pebbles and logs (which were fun to hop around on.) I learnt 3 fundamental things that day - 1) my feet reaches it's pain threshold after 7 hours of walking, 2) when I'm about to fall on my face into a bed of sand, pebbles and seaweed the first word out of my mouth tends to be "f!*K" despite there being children around, and most importantly 3) TAKE THE DANG STEPS next time!
