My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

To a believer, Wahe Guru Ji(god) is palpably present in the precincts of Golden Temple. I was struck by the sight of this devotee deep in thoughts in softly lit corner of the Golden Temple against the busy background of a crowd of devotees offering ‘amrit’(holy water) to the thirsty. The gleaming marble floor sanctifies the moment. Time of day: Late evening.

Thousands of devotees of all ages, faiths and walks of life throng to the Golden Temple, Amritsar all through the day and night. A large majority of them stop a while to offer ‘seva(service) for preparation of the langar(community meal in togetherness) which is offered to devotees 24X7 with genuine pleasure.
The sight of hundreds of people working in unison, with humility and brotherhood is both humbling and inspiring. It’s certainly a unique feature of the Sikh religion.

As night descends and lights begin to glow the gold sheet covering the temple blazes with a brilliance that is reflected breathtakingly in the ‘amrit sarovar’(tank of holy water) that surrounds the shrine and gives the city of Amritsar it’s name.
For hours every day thousands of devotees sit in silent prayers in dimly lit corridors that surround the shrine and watch it while the melodious hymns being sung inside the temple fill the entire atmosphere and enter the heart and soul
