Kicking myself all the way

Latin America intro 101

USA | Sunday, 19 April 2015 | Views [170]

I got my first taste of Latin America bureaucracy - we pegged it from Loreto, 100s of miles over one of the.most boring straight roads I have ever ridden and went straight to the ferry terminal outside La Paz to buy a ferry ticket for Monday. We arrived intending to park the bikes and buy the tickets for a few.days time as the Baja 500 Sur circus was in town (actually Cabo) so I wanted to get a cabin on the ferry booked for the night crossing. Anyhoo my rubbish Spanish failed to inform the official at the gate of this, so he proceeded to check our vehicle permits against the fra.e vin etc. Etc - taming, oh about 16 minutes.

Finally released we went over to the ticket building 50 feet away and we're told by the attendant inside they were closed. It was 3.15 pm on a Friday! ? I asked when they closed. 3 pm. I explained that we had been 50 feet away for the last 16 min so could she help us out ..' We open at 9 am tomorrow' (in Spanish). Please, we don't want to do the 10 mile round trip tomorrow if at all possible -

So tail between my legs I came back today. Sorted.
