Women in the fish markets of Cape Verde

About women_fish_markets

National Geographic is the magazine and the documentaries that made most young children dream on the idea of travelling to unique destinations and capturing the sense of the place. Well, I could be no exception. My name is Marianna Giannoulaki. I am a self taught enthusiastic amateur photographer enjoying especially travel photography. Travelling means getting to know people, different cultures and capturing through the lens my perspective of the place. Photography is a way of exploration and recording the world through my personal vision of things. I believe that capturing the feeling of a new place means first of all taste the food, listen to the music, and communicate with the people. If not, capturing the place through the camera lens will always be short of feelings that can be seen by a third party.

Being a biologist and a nature lover has inevitably affected my perspective  of a place and often seen in my photographs. I am trying to improve photographic techniques through reading but working on the field with a National Geographic photographer like Jason Edwards is the ideal way to learn and improve not only the technical aspect but also to find out new ways to express myself through photography. As worldnomad experts say photography should be in the field not in front of a computer.

The women of Cape Verde fascinated me right away. I was quite impressed how simple it was for them to dominated the fish markets throughout the archipelago.
