About wiremuvision
Based in Aotearoa-New Zealand, I am currently working with Maori communities on different documentary projects. I have been inspired by indigenous cultures and the fantastic natural surroundings in this part of the world. In parallel with creating films, I have always taken series of stills through out all the different trips I have done over the years. Telling stories through photography became a lifestyle and I want to go beyond that passion that drives me to capture specific moments.
I spend a lot of time deep into the forest to find what I feel is the right texture, the right lighting, the right place to compose something that has got somehow an aura. Walking in the highly contrasted native bush makes me feel like being in a “pointillism” painting. In this explosion of details and huge difference of stops we can always focus on some particular subjects, shapes in a bark’s tree sculpted by a divine light or the fine veins of a leaf magnified by the sun going through that transparent body. After taking a moment and listening to nature to feel that our surrounding is alive, our mission is to be able to transmit it in the picture. Sometimes, I do think that we need to go far enough to be embraced by mother earth and get the spirit of a specific landscape to get the best picture we can take. Technique is something extremely important but that connection with our environment is essential for me and I commit my entire life that way.
However, even though I wish I could stay in those remote places, I grew up within a big city and I still carry that compulsive thrill of taking pictures in the streets. It is just a pure pleasure to observe and hunt for the opportunity to catch in a single frame the soul and vibrations of a place. I see it as a good story-telling exercise, I believe that it is an incredible canvas to express human interactions and the world’s matters. Playing with the lines, materials, movements and obviously people evolving in their environment, the whole urban life is full of poetry and symbolism.
Most of the stories I work on deal with indigenous people lifestyle in the western world. Some of them could be told with videos of course but I noticed that others would be definitely more powerful with stills. In that regard I invest in myself to reach another level and master a whole workflow. My priority is the story and that is why I decided to live with them. It is their story and their way to tell it. Now, I need to produce efficiently, so completing a professional assignment and getting advice from someone who has got a lot of experience in the field and in this industry would open my eyes on the way of working and publishing.
It has always been something of mine to weave passion and work altogether as I believe that it is crucial to live our visions and dreams.
