My Scholarship entry - Hawaii- Land of the People
United States Outlying Islands | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 5 photos
Aloha~ I am a mother foremost. I've raised my children off the grid in tents and shacks. We've cooked on fires and melted ice for water. Living between Mexico, Hawaii and the continental US mountains. We are Nomadic Coconuts. I have had a camera in hand since I was child, then I was photographing clouds. I had since evolved to wearing my Nikon as a necklace, always living the life of my camera. In 2002 we stayed to bear witness to Hurricane Kenna as it made landfall over our town in San Blas, Mexico. This was the unfortunate end of my life with a real camera. I have made do with disposable cameras, digital freebies and now currently my iphone. I still cry over missed shots. Photography has been my go to as a busy jungle mother for my creative outlet. I've always wished to expand my lens and share my fascination of the world through my images with others. I see this contest as another opportunity to explore and potentially expand this vision. Ironically I have been saying I would be in Peru in a few months and here shows up the chance. I appreciate the opportunity once again.
In Gratitude~
