I am now in Florence living with a lovely older couple and attending language classes each day. My Italian in improving ( as they say... Poco, poco, piano, piano) and I was pleased to not be placed in the beginners class. Classes are small but I expect they'll increase in size once the weather improves. Last week we had 6 in my class but this week there are only 4 of us.
The school is quite good but not particularly well organised. My teacher, Marco, is very good and although I am the oldest in the class, the other students are lovely. I have been on a few outings with some of them and a big group of us are going on Sunday to a football game between Florence and Genoa.
Yesterday, I spoke with a student who is currently doing the internship I applied for. He is booked for another 3 months. After talking to him ( and not receiving a reply to any of my emails anyway) I have decide not to pursue the internship. However, my exciting news is that I have been offered a job teaching English to 2 children and living within their family. So in April I will move to an area close to Padova in Veneto and live with a family for a month. The area is famous for its thermal pools. As part of my job ( which is basically being a Mary Poppins / Mrs Doubtfire) I will need to drive the children to and from school and sport). I hope to make the transition to driving on the wrong side of the road without any major catastrophes.
the weather has been mainly wet for the last few days but is forecast too improve.
i am going to Lucca for the day on Saturday. And then on Sunday I am going with a group of students to a football game between Florence and Genoa. Saturdays weather. Looks great but there may be some drizzle on Sunday.
Ciao for now!
