Best surf

AUSTRALIA | Friday, 28 Sep 2007 | Views [378]

The best surf was at McKenzie bay.  No sand beach so you have to cross the rocks to get to the waves.  Nice clean waves today and only a couple guys making the most of them.  The water is so clear! All the locals are wearing steamer wetsuits but it's ... Read more >

Finally, Bondi

AUSTRALIA | Friday, 28 Sep 2007 | Views [513]

I made it to Bondi beach.  It's the most famous beach in Sydney.  It's certainly the biggest of the eastern beaches.  I turned up in time to catch the "Worlds largest bikini shoot" sponsored by Cosmopolitan magazine.  There were about 500 bikini ... Read more >

Icebergs

AUSTRALIA | Friday, 28 Sep 2007 | Views [307]

This is the home of the Bondi icebergs club.  The saltwater pool is used by club members all year round.  It's the pool usage in winter months that gives the club the name "Icebergs". It's 25 degrees today, so no icebergs.

On the eastern beaches of Sydney you can walk from Bondi to Coogee.  The whole walk takes about 2 hours. It follows the coastline and takes you over cliffs and onto beaches.  It's an excellant walk with fabulous views. Today was a perfect day so I went ... Read more >

Doyle's

AUSTRALIA | Wednesday, 26 Sep 2007 | Views [297]

There are 66 bays in the Sydney harbour and a boat tour is an excellent idea.  This is a photo of the famous seafood restaurant, Doyle's across the harbour from the centre of the city.  As we traveled the bays we saw the swimming beaches had shark nets ... Read more >

11 out of 15

AUSTRALIA | Wednesday, 26 Sep 2007 | Views [510]

Australia is home to 11 of the worlds 15 most deadly snakes.  Apparently by nature they are all quite shy and only bite when suprised or threatened. That's good to know as soon I'll be in the rurals where these guys live.  Got this photo at the Taronga ... Read more >

Doesn't look so bad

AUSTRALIA | Monday, 24 Sep 2007 | Views [295]

Clovelly doesn't look so dangerous in this photo.  There is a shallow end that poses no risk but as you get a little further out it gets wild.  What a fantastic place. The swimming area has been built out of the narrow channel leading to the beach.... Read more >

What the...?

AUSTRALIA | Monday, 24 Sep 2007 | Views [289]

I went a little further up the coast to Clovelly and thought I'd go for a swim as there is a surf life saving club there.  Then I saw this sign!!  No one else was swimming and the place was deserted. I decided I'd come back next weekend when the surf ... Read more >

Surf Club

AUSTRALIA | Saturday, 22 Sep 2007 | Views [454] | Comments [1]

I saw a picture of the Coogee beach surf club in a magazine in NZ, and I wanted to come here. Now I can tick it off my list.  The surf club has salt water swimming pools that are built up out of the sea.  What a cool idea.  I went up Coogee Bay rd which ... Read more >

I'm on the east coast of New South Wales and this is the view of Coogee beach, looking south.  Beautiful place. It is quite a long beachfront and Coogee is a lively village.  There are lots of backpackers and all these travellers keep asking me for directions.... Read more >

Museum

AUSTRALIA | Thursday, 20 Sep 2007 | Views [255] | Comments [1]

Went to the Sydney museum today. Unfortunately so did several classes of school kids. I did enjoy the African exhibition & the skeleton room with the skeletal frames of a variety of creatures but the rest wasn't worth the $10 it cost to get in.

This proves I was in Sydney

No doubt! Opera House at the harbour means I was really in Sydney.  Caught the train to Circular Quay and took in the tourist sights.  After being in Sydney a couple of times in recent years it was easy to navigate around the centre of the city.  My ... Read more >
