Clovelly doesn't look so dangerous in this photo.
There is a shallow end that poses no risk but as you get a little further out it gets wild. What a fantastic place. The swimming area has been built out of the narrow channel leading to the beach. It's amazing. Terraces have been built on the edge of the channel to make accessable an area that would otherwise be quite discouraging to swimmers. Its a symbiosis of a man-made stucture and a natural coastal feature. I like it, I'm definately coming back next weekend.
That's the surf life saving club on the other side. This is the place where all the ladders into the sea calmly invite you into the water, and as you walk to them you pass signs that say something to the effect, "If you swim here, you will probably be killed"
