My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Peru | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | 5 photos
I'm a terrible introvert, timid, but observant. I have always preferred to study the world from a safe distance. This has afforded me an awareness of subtleties in my environment. Yet, I failed to be truly awake in the present moment. This changed when I picked up a camera. Once I started photographing, just for the sheer joy of it, I felt complete as never before. Thanks to my camera, I have been able to join the world and study it so closely it hurts. Impressions I could never quite put into words were suddenly captured in an instant and I could share them with others. I was able to transmit things I never could before, as an introvert, to others. I have never studied photography, not for a lack in desire, but because of money difficulties. I was able to save up for my first DSRL a few months ago and in a short time I have been able to witness protests and celebrations, beauty and tragedy. I have testified with my photos. I deserve to be chosen because I have a real hunger to learn and give my all, not because of the prize, but because of others like me, those who feel as they cannot join the world and feel imprisoned in their circumstances, whether as subject or audience.
