We met up with Pri, Gabs and Anil one day at Oktoberfest (Munich beer festival) and Des, Loz and Mel the next. Needless to say many steins of beer were consumed with lots of general silliness and singing of German songs we didn’t know the words to. We are still feeling the effects a week later.

We then detoxed for a couple of days in the Swiss Alps, of which we have a new appreciation for after reading ‘Touching the Void’ (cheers Ed.)

(and now for Viens rant…)

We popped into the only English pub in Interlaken. It was pretty small with a few swiss locals, a group of frenchies and a couple of aussies. The aussies told us about their loss earlier in the day which we were sympathetic with but were really thinking ‘wohoo! You guys are outta here, suckers!’ A few hours later we were suckers too. I couldn’t believe we were out of the world cup and it was all due to that scummy ref! First he sent McAlister off for nothing (after which it was 14 vs 16) and the French scored, then he started to think he was in the NFL cos the Hail Mary used to score the next try was ridiculous!!! Yes I’m still not over it yet because we had tickets to the semis!!! I then had to suffer the indignity of reading clause 3 “In the event that your team does not qualify…” and England got through, great…oh and did I mention we’re now starting our month long stint in France (sigh)?

What is clause 3? I've heard from someone saying that they sold their tickets in previous WC for ridiculous amount of $$$, apparently enough to pay off previous tickets as well. Since the English made it through, maybe you should try to rip them off.

Congratulations to you both that is great news ......that's a big step Vien are you sure you have been together for long enough to make that sort of commitment ;)

Sounds like you are both having an awesome trip , consider me completely jealous , but I'm loving the updates from you both. Carla and me got back from Rhodes yesterday and have now got the post holiday blues back at work.

On the more serious note Vien ( you could probably see this coming) , have you been watching much of the rugger over the last week ..he he . How was the semi ? I remember you quite confidently saying to me that "if" England get through you will be watching NZ beat them at the semi's , how did that go ?? ..again he he. I hope you will be supporting us on Sunday ( another world cup final , I must admit its getting a bit a boring / Blasé to watch us in another one)

Take it easy both of you and keep the updates coming !!

p.s Come on England !!!
