THE FORECAST FOR THE OLD MINING TOWN of Winthrop called for fair weather but they hadn’t taken the rash of forest fires into account. (As I write this 3 weeks later, it is still fair and they are still burning.) We spent the week at the KOA in the non-town of Twisp along the Methow River. It was cool under the trees, a bit smoky, but otherwise OK and John even managed to catch a few trout.
Morning clouds, N. Cascade NP
Winthrop, and Twist, aren’t really near North Cascade NP but then again, nothing is. So we drove 50 or so miles every time we wanted to hike one of the trails. It is wonderful hiking in the mountains, surrounded by wildflowers and the scent of evergreens, with a snow-capped mountaintop peeking through now and again.
