Damn I was just writing an entry and I lost half of it! I'm on a very-slow-slower-than-usual-computer! Be thankful for the fast speed back home!
So we're off to Mutumbu shortly, I can't believe the time has finally come! Kisumu has been great though, I really do like the city, it just wasn't at all what I expected. It's Kenya's third largest city, but it doesn't feel or look like a "city" at all. It's just so run down and seemingly falling apart. There are always so many people everywhere, just sitting or standing around...the unemployment rate in Kenya is phenomenal. There aren't proper roads or footpaths, hardly any cars, just mostly vans, tuk tuks and boda bodas (push bikes with a seat on the back to carry a second person). Oh! I went on a boda boda yesterday, it was hilarious! I accidentially grabbed the guy's butt when I was trying to hang on! And we all went on one, so there was a line of 10 boda bodas cruising down the street, all with a black "driver" and a white person holding on for dear life on the back...the locals thought it was a great laugh!
We went to the juvenielle centre yesterday, but I don't think I've really processed it yet, so I don't think I can write much...it was overwhelming, there are about 80 kids there, I think the youngest was 5, most are there because they have committed some sort of crime, mostly stealing or assult, but there have been children there because they have have murdered someone. Other kids are there because there is no room for them in any childrens' homes, which is unfortunate because then they are mixing with juvenielle criminals. It was a good trip, the kids had a lot of fun and all wanted us to come back, but I think I am still feeling a bit numb from it all.
Now Mutumbu here I come! Don't know when I'll be back to write, probably in a couple of weeks. Love to everyone xoxo
