    Despite the language barrier, I taught a few children how to make a paper helicopter while they waited another day in a bomb shelter so their parents can work. Schools in the town of Askelon were shut down because of constant rocket fire. I felt great until I left, knowing the kids had to remain in the shelters beyond my enjoyable time with them. by: trekkerj Views[242] Right outside of Old Jerusalem exists a bustling market on Ben Yehuda Street. Israeli citizens live full and prosperous lives. Outside the market is the new light rail being constructed through the city. Some locals told me the rail will ruin the feel and culture in the area. by: trekkerj Views[254] Several prayer books out of many in an ancient and still functional Jewish synagogue. The majority of Israelis, however, consider themselves secular and rarely go to services to practice religion. by: trekkerj Views[215] An Israeli acting as our guard is with us more for any medical reasons that arise rather than for safety. I felt safer walking around in Israel than back home in California. by: trekkerj Views[206] Although riding a camel is entertaining, that's all it is in modern day Israel. Tourists are mostly the only people to experience a camel ride. by: trekkerj Views[207]
