Looking back toward New Lanark from the banks of the River Clyde, a little way upstream

One of our day trips in Scotland was to New Lanark, a town synonymous with the nineteenth century reformer Robert Owen. We'd heard the town was well worth a visit and it did not let us down. It is a very pleasant, historically significant place on the river Clyde with excellent educational exhibitions. We came away feeling edified which would no doubt have pleased Owen who placed great store in the improving effects of education. The kids learnt quite a bit - Tom about how children lived in the 19th century and Hamish how to play Hopscotch. The various exhibitions cleverly revisited the same ideas so that over the course of the day, very important ideas had been presented several times through various media.

After wandering around the town, and viewing the exhibits we took a walk along the river Clyde to the Falls. Then back to our lodgings in Glasgow.
