My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Australia | Thursday, November 3, 2011 | 5 photos
I am Australian; well at least I claim to be.
Yet I am so ignorant when it comes to our Indigenous culture.
Who are we as Australians? What is it to be Australian? What is the ‘real’ Australia?
I love to travel, I have been to America, to Iceland, to France, to Turkey but I have never ventured up the north of our country.
I have been to Queensland, have seen the shiny tinsel-town of Surfers Paradise, the beautiful beaches of the Sunshine Coast, the magnificent and never faultless Great Barrier Reef, but I never seen the real Queensland.
These photos illustrate my road-trip up the north of our fine country, revealing the 'real' Australian's I met along the way and showing the diverse and beautiful landscape.
This series uncovers my adventures, my keenness for everything and anything and my confidence in photography.
I want to document the raw qualities of a place - the realness of a place. So often people are shown a glossy, ideal version of a place, I believe I have shown and can further show the beauty and the charm.
I want to photograph people, places and events from all over the world, doing just that - showing people the un-glossiness of places - the rawness, the realness, the excitement and the adventure.
