A day in Istanbul

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos

Istanbul - an incredible city where every corner, street, person or thing is picture-worthy. I spent two days there, snapping away crazily, after travelling for over seven months I had not yet found somewhere so deserving of photos. Five photos can not describe the colourful and busy life that I discovered.
The day started in the Grand Bazaar where we explored the antiques. The beautiful clutter and the light that glinted off the brass pots and jewellery is captured in this image.
Next was the Spice Market filled with characters of all ages and types. This man sat drinking tea, with shy hand gesture, seemingly unaware of the kitten on his hat.
As the market was packed away, a man struggled with his purchases on his back as the world hurries around him.
After the markets we head to Kadiköy, the Asian side of Istanbul, where the `real` Turks spend time. Relaxing with a nagila (sheesha) the hours tick away.
With a light head and an empty stomach we head down to the waterfront and eat corn in front of 'Maiden's Tower'.
Istanbul was one of the last stops on my seven months of travelling.
I study journalism and photography in Tasmania, my dream has always been to be a travel-journalist/photographer but in my opinion the best lessons are learned through experience and with travelling I have gained experience. Earlier this year I took a semester off to travel and I have learnt more about photography through using my camera and capturing the world.
My skills will grow with the more photos I take and travelling is the perfect oppurtunity. Every corner of the world deserves a photo and I want to capture it.
My camera is my third eye, it captures experiences and memories that I want to show the world.
It is my one and only dream to travel the world taking photos and sharing them.
