A visit to the Ents

As i cross the border into California the temprature rises 10 degrees, you can see how border delineation occurs. the coastline is pretty much obscured by the coastal fog. It is immediately a lot more crowded also i think i am going to get the crowds from school break, my cushy run may be over. My goal is to see the coastal Redwoods in Redwood National Park. It doesnt dissapoint the trees are collosal they seem animated, majestic, kings of their realm. The road twists and snakes through the heart of the forest and it makes for a wonderful days riding. Accomodation is all but booked up as i try several campgrounds finally finding one with a couple of sites left. The good thing about the campgrounds is that even though crowded you still get a very private space.

The next day i head for the Valley of the giants more Seqouia sempervirens.  Again more inspiring riding and views, marred only by bags of rubbish dumped at the base of one of these wonders. It saddened me that some could have total disrespect and disregard for these majestic old men, you could almost hear the groans of pain and resignation. My goal was to reach san francisco in daylight, i dawdled along through the vineyards north of San Francisco and ran out of time and light so i stopped for the night in an historic town called Pemberton. I thought it wise to attack the traffic in daylight.

Accomadation was proving to be a problem if i wanted to stay close to the city, until a visit to McDonalds. Whilst blotting my copybook i noticed a discount docket magazine and there it was a room in the Presidio area for $50.00 per night. I waited for the post rush hour traffic and had no problems finding the hotel. The next 2 days i spent sightseing and walking all over the city areas. San Francisco is one of the cities i think i could live in, it all looked so familiar, possibly because of the Streets of San Francisco with Carl Malden or because parts reminded me of Melbourne. Next stop Yosemite National Park, without my jacket liner.
