Tonto on tour

China

Linxia, Gansu province. I was there in Sept. 2005 and it was a 6 hour journey to Xiahe over awful roads in an overcrowded minibus. I felt strangely overawed when I found myself seated beside one of the monks from Labrang Monastery. Until he threw up all over me from car sickness. At least I had lots of spare water to share with him. We saw roadworks most of the way to Xiahe and apparently the govt are building a highway from Lanzhou cutting the journey time to 3 comfortable hours.
