    by: tonto Views[200] Linxia, Gansu province. I was there in Sept. 2005 and it was a 6 hour journey to Xiahe over awful roads in an overcrowded minibus. I felt strangely overawed when I found myself seated beside one of the monks from Labrang Monastery. Until he threw up all over me from car sickness. At least I had lots of spare water to share with him. We saw roadworks most of the way to Xiahe and apparently the govt are building a highway from Lanzhou cutting the journey time to 3 comfortable hours. by: tonto Views[393] Well excuse my ignorance, but I had no idea there were large, practising Muslim communities in Gansu province. This is the town of Linxia, taken from the bus from Xiahe back down to Lanzhou. by: tonto Views[336] Can't remember the name of the monastery I'm afraid. However, the monks were happy to let us take photos and we were happy to pay for the priviledge. by: tonto Views[283] The village in the earlier photos seen from the distance. This photo was taken in September. I saw another one hanging up in our hostel taken in Spring and the greenery looked stunning. by: tonto Views[209]
