My Scholarship entry - From Red Flames to Green Grass: Life on a Volcano

Photography embodies the human spirit. We are the explorers and storytellers, set out to discover the mysteries that are grounded into the earth, waiting to be found. Inspired by National Geographic, I try to capture the beauty and details of things that may be overlooked. There is so much we miss when we go about our daily lives. I try to capture these moments with photography.
I am studying Wildlife Conservation, and have a huge passion for animals. This passion influences my photography. Encouraged by my brother, I began to take pictures. However, it wasn’t until I photographed a leaf bug on my driveway that made me love photography and what it can capture. I began to try to snapshot the small details of nature.
I use photography to showcase the beauty of things in an ever changing, and sometimes-destructive world. There will come a time when many things have gone extinct and we lose important organisms. As both a future conservationist and photographer, I want to see that the beauty of this world doesn’t end up just being photographic memories. Rather, a place where photographers, like myself, can keep sharing these beautiful moments and mysteries this world has to offer.
