La iglésia Salcaja. This church, built in 1524 is the oldest Catholic church in Central America. The Spanish conquistadors built it here in the center of the Mayan culture. One of my instructors told me it was selected by the Guatemalan people as their #1 historical site.

I was born in chicago but my parents were born in Salcaja and I have visited many times this church and I could say is great having a historical monument in such a small town like ours..As I grew up my grandma has told me many stories about our town.
