My first night in Guatemala City at Raquel's house

My first night in Guatemala City at Raquel's house

OK, I have been messing around down here trying to find Internet access and learn how this website works. Have no idea if I do but I am entering info so here goes a little catch up first.....

March 21, 2009: Pretty uneventful flight from Seattle through Dallas/Ft. Worth to Guatemala City. Only lost my iPhone and other connectors in D/FW on my layover. The plan was to meet Raquel with a sign outside the airport to be taken to her home for the night and then be put on the bus to Xela in the morning. The plan was to meet Raquel when my flight arrived at 9:15 by paying an extra fee for meeting me after 9:15. The plane did not arrive until 9:40. I get my packs but forget to get some quetzales (money) before leaving the airport. So now I'm outside the terminal. No woman is waiting for me. I'm starting to worry a bit about how to contact someone. I take out my info and realize I don't have the phone numbers anywhere for the school or for Raquel. I am relieve when I hear, "Tom" and see Raquel smiling with my name in her hand. She and her son drive me to her house, a ride where I learned that McDonald's and Pollo Camperos are everywhere. Thought a photo of my first night at Raquel's was in order.

Hey Tom,
It is great to chart your journey with you. The maps and photos make me feel like I'm right there with you. Don't lose anything else! Love, Susan
