My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
South Africa | Tuesday, July 2, 2013 | 5 photos
I recently spent four months doing the most incredible job I have ever had. I was working in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa as a tour leader for an organization that provides volunteer/adventure trips during university summer holidays. Part of my job was to coordinate the education aspect of the program at a local primary school and crèche (daycare/orphanage) in Khula village. The best part was getting to know the woman who ran the crèche and each of the kids personally. South Africa is rife with social, political, and economic problems; however, there's also joy, laughter, and an incredible vigour for life to be found. I took so many photos, but I hope this small selection can adequately convey the amazing atmosphere I encountered each day at work. At the end of every day I would say "ngizokubona kusasa" which means "I will see you tomorrow" in Zulu so they would know that I'd be back, and I can't wait to see them again.
