My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I’m a twenty year old physics student at The University of Oxford. I love being at university here, i get 28 weeks holiday a year... I’m the president of the university’s photography society, and I enjoy taking my camera to the botanical gardens in term time, but when term’s over is when I can finally get back to making photographs. I grew up and live next to the yorkshire dales, and spent a lot of time exploring as a child. As I’ve grown up and gained more independence I’ve been able to travel further afield and see some amazing places. I’m not a rich kid, I haven’t spent a gap year finding myself in tanzania or burma, but I take myself into the great british wilderness. Every year me and a close friend take ourselves into the Scottish Highlands, backpacks full of food, and we climb mountains and explore wide glens. It’s these memories that take me through the hard times of my degree and I feel there is so much beauty to be shown in these places. I carry at least 2 cameras, film, 4 lenses and a heavy tripod with me, over all the Monroes. I have a very unique philosophy of landscape photography and feel it is my responsibility to dedicate my life to sharing this with the world.
