Tokyo a city rebuilding, reinventing and revitalising

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

The old mercantile culture of Tokyo Tsukiji Fish Market, a 78 years old bustling, chaotic, dark and damp inside the warehouse containing 1600 stalls is the largest of its kind in the world. Due to health and safety concern and to create a modern market it is to be vacated after 2013 and moved when the construction of the new fish market is complete. As Tokyo is constantly being rebuilt and reinvented, there is a sense of nostalgia that part of the city and traditional culture is being lost.
